ABOUT THE UNA-USA WEST TRIANGLE CHAPTER

United Nations

The West Triangle Chapter of the UNA is one of the nations largest.  Nationwide over 20,000 persons participate in 125 local units.  We have almost 300 members who believe that the United Nations is critical to world peace and well-being. The Triangle Chapter includes Orange, Durham and Chatham Counties in the Triangle area of North Carolina.

The West Triangle Chapter:
  • Educates the public about the United Nations and its contribution to the security and well being of Americans.

  • Hosts monthly luncheon meetings at Carolina Meadows Retirement Community at which expert guest speakers discuss the United Nations and other foreign policy issues.

  • Offers evening meetings featuring speakers on topics related to international affairs.

  • Encourages local schools and universities to educate students about the United Nations.

  • Provides curriculum materials about the United Nations to local schools and universities.

  • Works with the UNC Center for Global Health to develop programs for low income underserved families in Chatham County.

  • Promotes and supports international humanitarian efforts.

  • Cooperates with the UNC student UN support organization on joint projects.

  • Advocates for the UN with Congress and the Administration.

The UNA-USA is the nation’s largest foreign policy organization, building public support for constructive US leadership in a more effective United Nations.

UNA-USA is an incubator of new ideas on such issues as conflict resolution, nuclear nonproliferation and sustainable development.

UNA-USA is a constructive critic of the UN and US policy in the UN.  We believe that the UN is so important that we must point out problems and offer alternative solutions.

UNA-USA is a force for change through the work of its 175 chapters, and its New York/Washington-based staff it is creating a powerful national constituency for an even better UN.

UNA-USA is building for tomorrow.  The association programs, including the Model United Nations programs for college and high school students are preparing new members of all ages for global change and challenge.

One country alone cannot solve the world’s problems.  The organization best suited to affect global problem-solving is the United Nations and no other group is doing more to make the UN stronger than UNA-USA.

Now more than ever
